After the few days I spent up North, early this week, my "Facebook Fan" site statistics were very low. In fact, they were lower than they have been since early last December. Needless to say, I felt quite dismayed by the sudden drop in visits during my mere three days absence, especially since the site statistics are measured two days PRIOR to real time.
As I gazed at my site statistics page, I pondered the same question I have been asking for quite some time, "How can I increase my readership?" As per usual, I thought of no solution. So I clicked over to see the "most recent" posts of my Facebook friends.
While the page was loading, an odd thought occurred to me. It was very strange really and I cannot remember what sparked it. But as a romantic who was raised on Science Fiction and Fantasy and never, ever reads or watches stories without a happy ending if I can help it, this very odd inclination came totally out of the blue. My thought was, "I sam going to write a horror story about Judgment Day."
Beyond that strange thought, I had another. This one was almost as strange, "I should post it to my blog for free as I write it -- and I should ask my Facebook fans for their input to help me with the story line!"
"I must be crazy," I thought. Even now I think I may be a little bit 'off,' but I figured, "While I seem to be losing my readership anyway, I might as well go ahead and do what I want."
My readers seem to like the idea of helping me write a story, I am happy with the increased reader interactions, and my horror story is coming along quite nicely. Today, I began a dedicated blog for the story. When it is finished, I am already kicking around an idea for an interactive science-fiction story to follow it. For now, though, we indulge in horror.
