Sweet Dreams

Last night, I had a dream. I was running away from someone. I think it was a man. And I was down in the basement of a building, running for the outside.

I was almost to a red steel door which I knew opened to the staircase leading outside of the building. Somehow, I fell. And it knocked me out for a minute. I was just regaining consciousness and my eyes were still closed when I felt that the man who had been chasing me was right next to me. So I kept my eyes closed, pretending that I was still unconscious. (What else could I do?)

As I lay there, pretending to still be unconscious, I felt my back get suddenly warm. The strange man had put a blanket on me. Then I felt hot breath on my cheek. It was at this time when I started to slip from my subconscious dream into real consciousness. My first thought as I awoke was that the breath was that of my spouse. I opened my eyes ready to smile and kiss my mate...only to find a dog muzzle in my face.

But what of the warmth of the blanket that I had felt? Who had pulled the blanket up over me? It was the dog. He had burroughed under the covers at night while I was asleep. And as he came out from under them in the direction of the head of my bed, the blankets were pulled. Hence, I my uncovered back got covered. And I felt the warmth of the blanket while I dreamed.
