It has been a while since I posted. But I have a short anecdote from last week that I thought you all might enjoy.
Last weekend, I came inside the house to sit in the living room and watch some TV. I was only casually watching, as Dad had political talkshows on and I have had about my fill of "Obamacare" and the like. Really, what I was doing was just sitting in the recliner to relax.
My dog, Snickers, saw me sit down and took his cue to jump into my lap. This is nothing special and I didn't pay any attention to him as he twirled around to sit in my lap. But after a while, I noticed that his head was motionlessly looking in the direction of the television. And I started to watch the dog rather than the show that was on, trying to ascertain whether the dog was really watching politics.
After several minutes, I determined that Snickers was indeed watching politics on television. "My dog is a genius!" I thought. So, when the next commercial came on, I called my dad's attention to the dog.
"Look at Snickers, Dad." I commented. "He is watching television."
Dad, the retired scientist, looked over to witness this strange phenomenon. He had a smile on his face, but his eyebrows were raised. He stared at the dog for several long moments. Then he said, "Yeah, sort of."
Now I have to admit that I was a little bit irked. What did Dad mean by "sort of?" I wondered. Not being able to see my dog's face (as I was lookig at the back of his head while we both watched television), I determined that I would have to risk disturbing Snickers by sitting up enough that I could look at his face and see what my dad had meant by his comment.
I sat up and looked down at the dog, who was indeed looking pretty much in the direction of the television ... holding a wrapped lollipop between his teeth.
